"A FEW BASIC FACTS RELATING TO ART IN MY TIME"

I learned basic drawing and painting from an artist of many years experience, the late Mr. Howard McCauley.

Following his passing, I turned to the appropriate books plus many visits to many art galleries.

My wife Valma and I married in 1957, then in 1962 we moved house to Elizabeth North. There I became a member of the Elizabeth Art Society in 1962.

Four years later I became the president of the above society in 1966 through to 1971.

Our three sons were educated in Elizabeth, and all three held jobs there after leaving school.

In 1990 we took a chance and bought our cottage right next door to the Koolunga Hotel. From the Lands/Titles office we learned our cottage was built in 1880.

As a former member of the Royal South Australian Society of Arts, one of my works was purchased by a former governor of South Australia, Sir Donald Dunstan.

Now I am a member of the Port Pirie Regional Art Gallery, exhibiting there at every opportunity.

I have a studio measuring 25' x 15' to the back of our block, well away from the cottage. There I while away many hours.

The Mid-North is a fine place to put down roots. Koolunga is an honest town where we shall remain to the end.
